The first Turkey Bowl that did not consist of any of the founding generation was played on a cold and snow covered field, with T-Bone Greene's team defeating Zach Greene's team by the score of 5-3. The snow brought back memories of Bill Greene's 5 touchdown QB performance in 2004, which he was quick to remind this editor of as well as his non-selection as MVP in that game.  The opening ceremony also featured the passing of the famed #3 jersey to young James Manchisi as part of his Dad's retirement. He wore it proud.

In today's contest, Garrett Bruce took MVP honors QBing the team with 4 touchdown passes and a diving run  for another. Zach Higdon continues to come on strong with 2 TD catches including the game winner and a key interception late in the game. The Gatti boys were particularly strong and showed up to play with Anthony making a number of catches as well as Raffaele, who was sporting his pink gloves for the event. 

​

Zach's team started strong with Cory throwing and running well validating his first round draft pick status and both teams scored on their first two possessions. But a third touchdown was called back by referee Bill Greene as Cory passed the line before throwing which would have resulted in Zach's team taking a 3-2 lead at half (It will be a fun evening in that Greene household tonight for sure). Instead T-Bone's team took the lead at half time and never lost it despite stronger second half defense and a great interception by Brian Manchisi. This editor finds it particularly humorous that both his boys were drafted before Mizzou's starting guard (something they can tell the next generation someday)

But in the end Garrett's pass to Higdon sealed the win and another victory for young T-Bone Greene

​

With this being the first 2nd generation Turkey Bowl, the rules committee will be considering three modifications to the current rule set.

​

1 - After the first round pick, and the next team picking two, the draft should revert back to individual picks. Not having the opportunity to see Sean against Clayton because they were on the same team needs to be rectified.

​

2 - The halftime kickoff should go to the team that gave up the third touchdown. Not to the team that didn't get the opening kickoff. 

​

3 - An ineligible lineman should be part of every play. There was very little pass rush in the game, which resulted in spectators calling for a 24 second clock violation. Perhaps because Garrett was wearing a basketball jersey! But hey, it sure worked for him.

​
