The biggest turnout ever (25 players) gathered on a beautiful Thanksgiving day to see Young T-Bone Greene's team (From Top Left to Bottom Right Tyler, James, Todd, Jeff Gatti, T-Bone, Jeff, Jason, Mike, Eric ,Cory (MVP), Brian, Garrett and Clayton) outcoach and outplay Zach Greene's team (From Top Left to Bottom Right Devin, Steven, Wes, Zach, Brian, Andrew, Ben, Zach Higdon, Marshall, Mike, Sean and Ra) by a score of 5-1. The size of the teams resulted in a field change which prompted many after game comments (the endzone is too short, field not wide enough) even though both coaches set the boundaries. With 8 players on the field at a time, the game got off to a slow start and there were no completions in the first 3 series, a first in Turkey Bowl history. After that, Cory hit Garrett (who was very strong particularly at defensive safety) for the first touchdown pass to take an early lead. 3 time MVP Sean (who did not have his A-game today) responded by hitting Ra for a touchdown, with outstretched arms to get the football over the goal line
From there it was all T-Bone's team. The defense was too much the team too fast, not to mention defensive miscues by Zach Greene's team. After Tyler scored the second touchdown taking a pass down the middle of the field, Jeff Gatti kicked off and Steven fumbled resulting in another quick touchdown for Young T-Bone. This took the wind out of the sails of Zach's team (who could be heard uttering profanities after the special team lapse). Another touchdown to Brian Manchisi (where the defense gave up on rushing) was followed by a game ending bomb to James Manchisi (yes James Manchisi) to seal the victory.
Cory took MVP honors at quarterback though the defense deserves a nod for outstanding play throughout. Andrew's win streak came to an end and Zach Higdon's losing streak continued.
After the victory, the team celebrated with Wild Turkey and drinks from the Turkey Bowl trophy which is a sight to behold (special thanks to Michael Sullivan for creating the new Turkey Bowl trophy)
The torch is clearly passing as the adults are few and far between. Bill, Bob and Steven were there but only as spectators and Mike (who did play) could have been one as well.
Happy Thanksgiving All.
